The Life and Death of Hanserd Knollys
It is a delight to read about the life and ministry of a faithful saint; it is even more of a delight to be able to read about it from their own pen. In this classic autobiographical work, Hanserd Knollys guides us from the time of his birth until his 73rd year. He tells about his conversion, coming out of the Church of England to become a Baptist, his sufferings in and out of New-Gate prison, his voyage to New England, the flourishing of the school he founded, and most importantly his pastoral ministry. He labored as an elder of a congregation in London for nearly fifty years under many difficulties. At the end of the autobiography is the final letter he wrote to his congregation, in his ninety-third year, shortly before he died.
Attached to the autobiography are two sermons originally entitled, Christ Exalted. After reading about his life and ministry, you will be able to see for yourself the plain, biblically-faithful, and moving way in which Hanserd Knollys preached the gospel to sinners.

Hanserd Knollys (1598-1691) was a pastor, author, teacher, and one of the first Particular Baptists. He was a pastor for more than fifty years, the author of eleven works, and a man of great learning. Competent in the ancient languages and educated at Cambridge, Knollys oversaw a grammar school, in addition to his pastoral work. He suffered many hardships for the gospel and was imprisoned countless times, all the way into old age.
